This CD-ROM contains part of a corpus of digitized speech and
associated software developed for the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA) speech research community.  The disc was
prepared with sponsorship from the DARPA Software and Intelligent
Systems Technology Office and Microelectronics Technology Office and
was produced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST).  This CD-ROM is the fourth in a series of Resource Management
corpora CD-ROMs.  [Please note that this CD-ROM is a revision of NIST
Speech Disc 2-4.1, dated January 1990, and includes additional test
data.]  Other related Resource Management discs are:

CD-ROM Contents

The following files and subdirectories are located in the top level directory
of this CD-ROM:

  cd_info.txt: file containing a more detailed description of the contents 
               of this disc;

      convert: directory containing ESPRIT SAM software for converting
               Resource Management speech files into a SAM compatible format;

   readme.txt: this file;

          rm1: directory containing part of the Resource Management
               Development Test and Evaluation Test corpora;  Some general
               documentation is also included which describes the data as
               well as instructions for implementing DARPA benchmark tests.

        score: directory containing NIST-developed speech recognition scoring
               software, statistical tests, and alternative prototype
               phonology-based scoring software;  Please note that
               the scoring software is periodically revised and updated
               software may be available from NIST.

       sphere: directory containing NIST SPeech HEader REsources (SPHERE)
               version 1.7; library routines and command-line programs for 
               manipulating the NIST speech file header structure;  Please
               note that the SPHERE software is periodically revised and
               updated software may be available from NIST.

Each of these directories contain a "readme.txt" file which may be consulted
for more detailed information.
