Following is a sample from the Reuters Latin American Business Report. This news service actually transmits articles in both English and Spanish, although it does not provide any explicit or external indication as to the language used in any given article. As a result, this collection had to be processed to eliminate English articles automatically, based on text content. The approach that was used was quite simple: for each article, determine whether the text contained the Spanish words "al", "el", or "en", and/or the English words "is", "are" or "the". Articles that contained only the former and not the latter were selected for inclusion in this corpus. The consistency of markup across articles is fairly good. reula9311_001.0089 a0186 &D3; &D1; BC-Panorama-Cambiario
