Nihon Kezai Shimbun, Inc., or NIKKEI, is one of the largest comprehensive business and economic information networks in the world. Its flagship publication, The Nihon Kezai Shimbun, is estimated to have three million readers, and is considered to be the highest ranked business daily in Japan.
The 188MB archive made available by this publisher for research purposes covers the period from December 1, 1993 to November 30, 1994. The data was delivered on three open reel tapes; the character encoding was EUC (ISO 202022) and the data was stored in an IBM mainframe record format called EBCIDIC. A program was written to provide simple SGML tags; no DTD is given. The files are labeled by date, and contain only the articles for a given date.

The text provided from Dow Jones Telerate is produced and transmitted to the LDC by Kyodo News Service. The primary recipients of this news service are staff members in large brokerage houses, banks, manufacturers who have Japanese management or other professionals who follow business news from Japan.
This service is one of only a few services not transmitted to the LDC in a continuous 24-hour stream; the news articles are retrieved directly from the Dow Jones Telerate Digital Page System, which automatically refreshes a headline page with news headlines and article page addresses. An interface and audit program was written by the LDC staff to continually poll the headline page and retrieve news articles whenever a new one hits the headline page.
The text was left in its original EUC encoding, and is provided with the same tag set used on the Nihon Kezai Shimbun text.
As with the Nihon Kezai Shimbun text, the licenses available for this text are research only licenses, and only LDC members have access to this corpora.
